Derry City and Strabane District Council procured this contract in 2017. Hawthorn Heights tender was successful and on appointment, carried out all works as main contractor. The project consisted of the replacement of an existing sand based synthetic carpet and adjoining natural grass pitch with new 3G surface and associated complex civil engineering works; allowing for one large full sized Rugby and GAA pitch, which could be used as two smaller soccer pitches. The scheme included a range of complex civil engineering works and strict environmental measures had to be put in place and adhered to in the prevention of contamination to the adjacent River Mourne. Hawthorn Heights organised and coordinated the design and installation of the pitch floodlighting to meet planning requirements.
